Introduction
Practice
Teaching is a crucial part of every student teacher’s life during college.
Student teachers or pre-service teachers are college students teaching under
the supervision of a certified teacher in order to qualify for a degree in
education.
Pre-service
teachers are intended to create a portfolio not only for the compliance for the
graduation but also for many purposes.
This practice
teaching portfolio was prepared and developed to provide and share experiences
for those who will undergo the same undertakings. Some classroom difficulties
and problems that he had encountered are mentioned, and the lesson that he had
learned. The greatest value of this practice teaching portfolio is that it
serves as the mirror of the practice teacher for their progress and achievement
in their practice teaching. And also this practice teaching portfolio was
prepared to expose the pre-service teacher experiences so that they can use it
in relating their theories learned inside the classroom to become globally
competitive.
Another purpose of this
practice teaching portfolio is that it assess the pre-service teacher’s
learning for the preparation in future life in facing the real world of
teaching. The pre-service teacher must do always their best in imparting
knowledge to the students. Just love your students so in return your students
will be embracing you too, with the great things you’ve done to them not only
in cognitive side but in affective and psychomotor development.
Teacher’s Prayer
I want to teach my students how
To live life on earth,
To face its struggles and its strife
And how to improve their worth,
Not just the lessons in a book
Or how the river flows
But how to choose the proper path
Wherever they may go,
To understand eternal truth
And know right from wrong,
And gather all the beauty of
A flower and a song
For if I help the world to grow
In wisdom and grace,
Then I shall feel that I have won
And I have filled my place,
And so I ask your guidance, God,
That I may do my part,
For character and confidence
And happiness of heart.
Philosophy of Education
As an
educator, my role is to give each one of my students the best possible
education, to motivate them to use it to reach their full potential, and to
prepare them to be productive citizens. I strive not only to share my knowledge
with them but also to instill in them a passion for learning.
I believe each and every child has the
potential to bring something unique and special to the world. I will help
children to develop their potential by believing in them as capable
individuals. I will assist children in discovering who they are, so they can
express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas. I have a vision of a
world where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace the differences
between us, as the core of what makes life so fascinating.
Every classroom presents a unique community of
learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. My
role as a teacher is to give children the tools with which to cultivate their
own gardens of knowledge. To accomplish this goal, I will teach to the needs of
each child so that all learners can feel capable and successful. I will present
curriculum that involves the interests of the children and makes learning
relevant to life. I will incorporate themes, integrated units, projects, group
work, individual work, and hands-on learning in order to make children active
learners. Finally, I will tie learning into the world community to help
children become caring and active members of society.
My classroom will be a caring, safe, and
equitable environment where each child can blossom and grow. I will allow children
to become responsible members of our classroom community by using strategies
such as class meetings, positive discipline, and democratic principles. In
showing children how to become responsible for themselves as well as their own
learning, I am giving them the tools to become successful in life, to believe
in themselves, and to love themselves.
Teaching is a lifelong learning process of
learning about new philosophies and new strategies, learning from the parents
and community, learning from colleagues, and especially learning from the
children. Children have taught me to open my mind and my heart to the joys, the
innocence, and the diversity of ideas in the world. Because of this, I will
never forget how to smile with the new, cherish the old, and laugh with the
children.
Reflection
When I first thought about student
teaching, I went through many emotions. It started with excitement
because that meant I was that much closer to graduation. I had so many
questions running through my mind. What will my teachers be like?
Will the faculty be supportive? With all these questions, I started to
feel intimidated by what was soon to come. I was worried that I would not
get along with my supervising instructors and my co-student teachers. I
was terrified that my students would not understand me. What was I going
to do if I was not able to be the kind of teacher I had hoped I would be?
When the time came for me to begin my student teaching all I did was to be
confident with myself and hope that all things will be alright.
In
my practice teaching experienced, I have learned and discover a lot of things.
I also learned things which I thought difficult for me to learn. I also
discover to myself that I have hidden talents which I have not shown. My
practice teaching in Elementary School Laboratory, BSU made me learn how to
become a real teacher inside and outside of the classroom. As a student teacher
it is not expected of us that we all know about teaching, our student teaching
is just a beginning of our learning about becoming a real teacher. Each day that I had in ESL contribute
meaningful learning to me. Actually there are theories of learning that I
have known from my previous years but I wasn’t really able to understand it but
when I was already in the field of teaching I finally understood those
theories. I have really proven to myself that learning by doing is the best. I
know that there are more things that I have to learn, but as my journey in
teaching goes on I am more capable of learning and exploring new things.
In
my practice teaching I realized a lot of things. First, I realized that being a
teacher is not an easy job because there are many things you have to balance
and the first thing is time, in teaching job, time was really your enemy but it
is the most important because as a teacher you have a lot of things to prepared
like your instructional materials, the classroom, your learners and most
especially yourself. In my practice teaching
I also realized that patience, enthusiasm, flexibility and courage is very
significant because through these personal values you will become a teacher you
wanted to be. I have also realized that having a good
relationships with your colleagues in teaching job is very necessary because if
not it will lead to frustrations and might be the reason of your fall.
As
a teacher I commit to do the things that is right for my profession, I must be
the kind of teacher who provides meaningful learning. I must be tactful in
every decision that I am going to make where it cannot create any violence
regarding with my teaching. I must commit myself in the proper way of educating
my pupils. I must teach my pupils how to live life having a good character and
greater knowledge.
Narrative Report
My practice teaching experience
brought me so much memory. I had experience to become a real teacher. I became more
responsible with my duties as a student teacher. Practice teaching is where I
had learned a lot of things which had helped me to improve. Practice teaching
is where I developed my good personality as a teacher.
Our
first week for on campus teaching in Elementary School Laboratory, BSU begun
last November 11, 2013. This was the week where we had our orientation and
observation in class. 7:00 am. Monday, we student teachers gathered in
quadrangle ESL , all of us were in formal attire. Everybody was looking good
with their attire. It is seen in our faces that we student teachers are excited
and felt nervous maybe because it will be our first time to teach and we are
not yet ready. In our first day in ESL, the teachers gave us their warm
welcome. The principal Mrs. Elvira Sumbalan welcomed us with her message about
Pre-service teaching. Her message telling us to always have a courage in
teaching we should not allow problems and trials to fall ourselves down. After
the principal’s talk, Ma’am Binayao
announced who will be our supervising instructor and what grade level we
will be assign. After we have known our assigned grade, we directly reported to
our SI. Our SI was Ma’am Vilma Ablanque and we are assigned to Grade-I
Cinderella, before Ma’am Vilma introduces herself to us, she let us to take the
floor first. Each one of us was ask to introduce ourselves. After we have known
each other we decided to elect our officer. Before we end up our first day in
ESL we had our classroom orientation together with Ma’am Vilma. Ma’am Vilma
aware us about our responsibilities as a student teacher, she mentioned to us
what are our classroom rules, she also gave us an advice how to adjust with our
new environment where there a lot of things to be learn for us student
teachers. The rest of the week we spent it to observations of our SI’s.
November 18, 2013
was our second week in the ESL.
This was the week where we had our first teaching demonstration, we student
teachers were busy making our lesson plans and instructional materials. In
every demonstration there were group assigned to observe. I have seen in every
faces of student teachers that they were very serious with what they are doing,
I even observed it to myself but I was still able to manage to smile. In our
first demonstration my feeling was
unexplainable I feel very nervous, unconfident and feel like being drown inside
the classroom but after I was finished with my demonstration I felt a relief of
nervousity in my part. My second demonstration on this week was Thursday the
subject is GMRC, I come to school very early since GMRC is our first period in
the morning. After flag ceremony our demonstration begun there is still
nervousity that I felt but not so much just like in my first demonstration.
Our
third week in ESLwas last November 25-30, this was the week where we need to
put a lot of confidence in ourselves because we will be teaching alone inside
the classroom. My preparation in individual demonstration was doubled. I made
my instructional materials more colorful and attractive. And I practice a lot.
I was glad with the feedback of my S.I because she appreciated the IM’s that I
prepared and aside from that she observed that there is an improvement with my
teaching. After my first individual demonstration I take a rest for one day but
after my rest. I looked for my topic again and prepared for my next week
demonstration.
In
this week December 2-6, I have observed that we student teachers in Grade-I
Cinderella are becoming closer to each other. We often laugh together and share
experiences together. I have also
observed that we are becoming more responsible. This was the week were I have
seen that we student teachers are united as one.
December
9-13, it was almost Christmas day. We student teachers were very busy for
preparing the Christmas program. Our pupils were having daily practice for
their caroling contest and we ST’s were also busy decorating our classroom.
During evening We ST’s are also having a practice for a dance presentation
during the Christmas program. All in all we spent this week for our Christmas
program.
This
was our last week for month of December. We don’t have a class anymore because
we had our Christmas program. We had also our Christmas party. During our
Christmas program we student teachers from Grade-I Cinderella presented a
dance. All of us have enjoyed our presentation, though we felt nervous. The day
after our Christmas program is our Christmas party. We prepared foods and
prices for our games. We had also our exchanging gifts worth of 100 pesos. We
student teachers mingled together, we really have fun. We danced, we sang and played.
It was really unforgettable Christmas party that we had.
This
week will be our last week in the Elementary School Laboratory, we student
teachers are busy with our requirements for off-campus teaching. We also had
our final teaching evaluation. We also had our Despidida party. We student
teachers gave thanks to our dearest Supervising Instructor Mrs. Vilma Ablanque.
Each one of us gave message to her because through her guidance were able to
become successful for our on-campus teaching. Before we leave the ESL we see to
it that we have finished all our requirements so that we will be approved for
our off-campus teaching.
Narrative Report
My off-campus teaching started last January 25,
2014. I was assigned in Grade-VI Robinhood, Elementary School Laboratory,
Bukidnon State University. My supervising Instructor was Mr. Albert Villanca.
During my first week of my off-campus I had an observation to my pupils, I had
also started my demonstration. In my first week in Grade-VI Robinhood there are
things that I have found out especially to the behavior of my pupils, My pupils
in VI-Robinhood were need to be guided always, they are the kind of pupils that
are hard-headed, A student teacher like me must have a very good commanding
influence so that the pupils will obey and pay attention. My first week
experience in Grade-VI Robinhood was more on adjusting and knowing the behavior
of pupils.
After my first week experience in
Grade-VI Robinhood I have already adjust with the behavior of my pupils. I have
also realize that being a grade VI teacher is very challenging because your
pupils already know what is right and wrong so every mistake that you made is
always corrected by them and as a teacher it is a shame on your part but the
good thing there is it will gave you learning and it will make you to be more
careful the next time. In each week I have five demonstrations so every day I
made different lesson plans for different subjects and in my part making lesson
plan every day is very tiring but as a teacher I have to do it because it is my
responsibility. During my demonstrations I have always hold my patience because
my pupils were very noisy they do not listen, every time I reprimand them they
would just stop for a while and talked again with their seatmates. So as their
teacher I always call those names who are not paying attention. There are also
times that I scold them when they are already abusing my patience. Sometimes I
just do not mind them as long as I finished my lesson though there is no
fulfillment in your part.
Feb 3-8, 2014 this was my second week.
My pupils have their practice for the Makabayan Festival. My co-st, is the one
facilitating for their practice. Our supervising Instructor gave us different
role for the Makabayan Festival Event of our pupils. We student teachers work
together to have a good output. Though were busy preparing for our Makabayan
Festival Event we did not forget that our focus is teaching. So every day we
student teachers do our responsibility, we made our lesson and our
instructional materials.
Feb 10-14 this was my third week stay in
Grade VI Robinhood. In my third week I had realize that I already love my pupils.
They become my friends already though not all of them but many of them. Our
bonding of my co-st was already getting deeper. We share different jokes and
experiences in life. We also work together for the betterment of everyone
though sometimes we have misunderstandings but it is normal for a group. I had
also appreciate the kindness of our Supervising Instructor. He is very
approachable and especially he is not strict to us his student teachers.
Feb 14, 2014 this is the day for the of
event of Makabayan Festival. We student teachers come early to school also with
our pupils. The festival that is assigned to our section is Pentados Festival
so we come early to paint the body of our pupils. We student Teachers exerted
efforts for us to come up a very good body paint. It took us three hours to
finish painting. We have painted 37 bodies. Though we are not an artist but
were able to come up a very good body paint. Many people from Elementay School
Laboratory appreciated the performance of our pupils though it was not perfect
but they were able to give a performance that is entertaining to the eyes of
everybody. Our section was awarded as the most lively performance and were
given a price that is worth of one thousand pesos. We student teachers were
very happy and proud for our job that was been done successfully.
After our big event my job back to
normal, five demonstrations in a week. But this is the week where I am very
pressured because I had two demonstrations in Filipino especially knowing that
the SI of this subject was very strict and perfectionist. During the first
dropped of my lesson plan I’d already expect that it will be return with many
red marks and my expectation did not make me wrong my lesson plan was returned
having many red marks but I did not make a bad feeling about it because I already understand the nature of the SI
handling the subject. I rewrite my lesson plan and pass it again. During my
demonstration I was very nervous but I put it in mind that whatever happened I
did my Job and gave my best.
Feb 24-28 this was the week where I am
busy making my test questions because I was assigned to make the HEKASI exam.
This was also the exam week of our pupils and this was also our last week of
teaching. We student teachers felt already a sense of relax because we don’t
have demonstrations anymore but we still have our job. We are the one who is
conducting the test and the guide of our pupils.
March 10-14 this was our last week in
Grade VI Robinhood. We student teachers were busy making our requirements. Our
pupils are already having their graduation practice. Since it was our last week
we had a class recognition and fairwell party. We prepared a short program
inside our classroom. We gave ribbons to those pupils who are having an award.
after our program we have eaten our foods. During in the evening we had our
last post conference. Our SI talk to us and gave his last message to us his
student teachers.
My off-campus teaching gave me another
teaching learning experience. I have learned to be patience at the bottom of my
heart. I have also learned to love the pupils who are very naugthy. My
off-campus teaching gave learning that I can bring to my future field of
teaching. I can say that teaching is the hardest job among of all jobs but the
payment of this job is priceless.

Description of the Site of Practice Teaching
BSU Milestones
Bukidnon State University is
located in the capital town of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon and is strategically
positioned to serve Region 10, the CARAGA Region and other outlaying cities and
provinces of Mindanao. It is one of the leading educational institutions
serving the people not only in Mindanao but also the country in general. The
following series of milestones became evolutionary decades in the history of
the College.
First decade: 1924-1934. The
Bukidnon State College was known as the Bukidnon Provincial High School when it
started offering education courses in 1924, to produce elementary school
teachers. On October 1927 it acquired a 6.02-hectare of land area, on which
most of the present school buildings are housed. In the suceeding year, it was
converted into a normal school and was then renamed as the Bukidnon Normal
School. A training department was also started during this period.
Second decade: 1934-1944. The
Commonwealth government mandated the school to carry out its task of
“developing moral character, personal discipline, civic conscience, and
vocational efficiency.” However, the school had to close during World War II,
on December 9, 1941, even as it was making a slight headway towards acquiring a
collegiate status.
Third decade: 1944-1954. The
school re-opened on September 1, 1945. Classes were held in Army tents at the
provincial capitol grounds in Malaybalay and in private homes. Nipa-roofed
buildings served as classrooms in 1947 until new, semi-permanent structures
were built from war damage claims on February 11, 1950, and from ICA-NEC funds
in 1957. Mr. Pacifico A. Ramos assumed his post as principal. The secondary
curriculum was phased out to give way to the 2-year special education courses
starting school year 1952-53.
Fourth decade: 1954-1964. This era
was marked by the shedding off of the outmoded curricula. Thus, the total
phase-out of the secondary course was done in 1956 and the 2-year special
curricula was discontinued in the following year. Kindergarten classes were
opened. Graduate studies began in 1960 and were carried out in external study
centers located in the neighboring towns and provinces. The school became an
independent school division and the administrator was granted the rank of
superintendent in 1961.
Fifth decade: 1964-1974. Congressmen
Carlos Fortich and Benjamin Tabios, attempted to elevate the school’s status
into a national teacher’s college. In June 1971, the Bachelor of Science in
Secondary School Education was offered and the high school training department
was also added. The Bukidnon Normal School was renamed Bukidnon Normal College
in 1972.
Sixth decade: 1974-1984. The first
master’s graduate was produced in 1975. Dr. Jaime M. Gellor succeeded Supt.
Ramos on May 1976. With the issuance of P.D. 944, the Bukidnon Normal College
was converted into Bukidnon State College on June 14, 1976. Dr. Gellor was
appointed as the first president of the school on April 21, 1977. More
permanent buildings were constructed.
Seventh decade: 1984-1994.
Continuing infrastructure build-up was made. In 1986, Dr. Teresita T. Tumapon
was appointed as the second president. More course offerings and organizational
restructuring occurred. The new administration also pushed for more development
projects.
1994-1998: As the school entered
its eight decade, Dr. Tumapon strived to realize her vision for an innovative
college. Linkages with external and internal groups were strengthened. Programs
on Information Technology and Instructional Systems Design were introduced.
1999 to 2007: Dr. Victor M.
Barroso was appointed as the third BSC President. He immediately mobilized his
new team members to institute significant changes in the academic and
administrative aspects of the college, which promise a continuing development
to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
2007 to present: The College
obtained the University status with RA 9456 converting BSC to BSU, signed by
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Dr. Victor M. Barroso was inaugurated the
1st BSU President, a vision fulfilled when he applied for presidency in 1999.

Reflection
Teaching
is the only profession that teaches other profession. Teaching is not a task
for a teacher to do but it is an obligation that we had not only to use our
mind but also our heart I consider this obligation as a very challenging part
in my life especially when i am just a new teacher, i still don’t have a lot of
ideas and strategies on how to lead a class.
When
i had my first exposure in teaching during my on campus i had a lot of
experiences which made me realize that teaching is not an easy job, it is a
kind of work where you need a lot of patience. Being a teacher there are lots
of things that you need to think about especially your daily lesson plan, it
takes time for you to finish your lesson plan and the materials that you need
in teaching your lesson. During my off campus i had experience how to be very
busy because everyday i had my demonstration so when i make my lesson plan i
assure it that there is no revision anymore but sometimes there is really a
need for me to revise because there are many red marks in my lesson plan
especially in Filipino subject. In my off campus teaching i realize that
learners really vary from each other. As a teacher you need to have many
strategies so that you can cater all of your learners despite of their learning
capability. As a grade-VI student teacher there are things that i need to
adjust, especially on the behavior of my pupils on their ages they are very
possessive they wanted that nobody will reprimand their misbehaving action
sometimes i just don’t mind them but as a teacher it is my responsibility to
teach them the right values. Having my student teaching it brought me a lot of
pressure but after teaching demonstration it will give you success.
My
realization on my off campus teaching was being a teacher uphold a great
responsibility. As a teacher you are responsible of all the works and
activities for your pupils, you are slso responsible of their actions so if one
of your pupils commits mistake or something happened tto your pupil you are the
one to be blamed.
CAREER PLANS
Now
I’ve finally finished my degree I am looking ahead to what will happen next in
my career, since I am a fresh graduate there are lots of things that i want to
do and wanted to try but before that, my priority for now is the preparation of
my incoming board exam. I will be having my review at St. Louie Review Center.
I know that this board exam will not be easy so for now my focus is for the
review. If I am fortunate to pass the licensure exam for teachers, I am going
to pursue my teaching career, I am going to devot my life in teaching, I will
make myself employed in DepEd. After two years upon entering DepEd, I will be
having my masteral degree so that I can develop my teaching competency and also
for me to be given a chance to be one of the competitive teachers.
Teaching
is not only my destination in life. I wanted also to take another path. Since i
was young I already dreamed to be foreign in other country, I want to work
abroad and to earn money for my personal interest and wants. Before settling down I want these dreams come
true and if i would be able to achieve these dreams the next step would be marrying,
if I would reach the age of 27 and if the time allows me to meet the man that
is meant for me I would take the chance to marry. I will start to build the
family that i ever dreamed before. I would like to have three children, two
boys and one girl.
We
all know that learning does not stop so while taking care of my family i would
take my doctoral degree for me to have a title, but not just a title i want to
make my profession more accessible in learning. At the age of 35 with the
guidance of the Lord i will enter the world of business. i would like to have a
department store that would be built in our hometown, i want to also have a
piggery and fishery that would be manage by my two brothers. I know that these
dreams could not come true if it is not joined with determination and
perseverance and especially with the guidance of our almighty God.
